Session 6: The Determining Round

This is Session 6: The Determining Round.  If Dustin and Dillion win they move to the finals.  If Hunter wins he moves closer to the third place match.

All these wrestlers are medalists and will be in the illustrious Grand March, but now we find out how high the will find themselves on the podium.

Here is a preview:

Tonight's Match-ups

Championship Round (Semifinals):

#3 Dustin Caldwell vs Dawson Nemmers West Dub.  (Sr. 33-4)
Dustin has wrestled Nemmers twice this season with each athletes claiming a win.  If Caldwell comes out and continues his pace, hits his high crotch, and wrestles with the confidence he has displayed all tournament the River King junior can find himself in the finals.

#9 Dillion Chase vs. Logan Walkup Johnston (Sr. 34-15)
Dillion and Logan share a common opponent, but this late in the year, on a stage like this, none of that matters.  Walkup made the semis by earning a 6-0 decision over Dakota Diggman of Linn-Mar, and a decision in sudden victory overtime over Morgan Hall of West Dub.  Chase won a dramatic 6-4 decision over Connor Larson in the first round, and recorded a 59 second fall in the quarters.  If Chase continues to remain persistent with his repertoire and wrestles with the confidence of the first two rounds he can earn his first trip to the finals.

Consolation Round:
#5 Hunter Genco vs. #7 Dan Kelly Cedar Falls (So. 30-6)
Hunter has been dialed in since his first round 9-8 loss.  He has won by major and fall so far on the consolation side.  While he has never wrestled Kelly the both share a common opponent in Linn-Mar's Alijah Jeffery.  Kelly has lost twice to Jeffery, while Genco has split and most recently defeated Jeffery at the State Duals.  Hunter looks like a man on a mission now.  Look for that tempo to continue and if he does so he should continue to pursue his best possible outcome- a third place finish.
